Second Street Studios embraces the “Housing First” philosophy: a nationally recognized, evidence-based approach to provide permanent homes for people as quickly as possible and additional support services, like case management, medical care and behavioral health services. Most cities treat homelessness with temporary fixes like food banks, short-term shelters or encampments and addiction clinics. However, according to experts like Destination: Home CEO Jennifer Loving, such temporary measures are both backward and ultimately self-defeating.
“Just getting a homeless person into a place to live and calling it a day is not good enough,” Loving said. “Housing must be the beginning, not the end; start with a stable place to live, with support in place to help people with recovery.”
